BSD Builders Completes $24.7 Million Inland Valley Medical Center

SAN DIEGO — September 27, 2010 — BSD Builders, Inc. has completed a complex $24.7 million expansion of the Inland Valley Medical Center at 36485 Inland Valley Drive, Wildomar, CA, according to Steve Sherrer, principal with BSD Builders, a San Diego-based general contractor and construction management firm specializing in commercial, healthcare, biotech, industrial and corporate improvements.

The 29-month long project, which featured Type V (wood framing) construction, included a 7,274-square-foot Intensive Care Unit (ICU) addition consisting of 11 new ICU beds; an 11,528-square-foot Emergency Department addition including 23 ER treatment beds, centralized outpatient registration, and entry canopy; a 12,880-square-foot Radiology addition including MRI, radiographic room, ultrasound and mammography; and 47,000 square feet of exterior site improvements including parking lot, new entry areas, ambulance bay and landscaping. The Inland Valley Medical Center remained open during the project, which added to the logistical challenges of joining ground-up freestanding additions with existing facilities. The project also included installation of hydronic and medical gas piping and sleepers on existing roof structures over functioning surgical and patient care areas; relocating the existing path of travel for the emergency vehicles during construction; temporary relocation of the ambulance bay; and the creation of temporary paths of travel during site work for safety and access to the existing heliport.

The BSD team members for the Inland Valley Medical Center project included Project Executive Jim Docherty; Project Manager Rochelle Wisdom; Project Engineer Andy James; and Project Superindendent Chris Brennan.

Project Team included Rodriguez Park Architecture and Planning, architect; DESIGNstudio, interior design; Simon Wong Engineering, structural engineer; Kimley-Horn and Associates, civil engineer; GLUMAC International, mechanical, plumbing and electrical engineer; and KTU+A, landscape architect. Construction team members included Sherwood Mechanical, Inc., plumbing and medical gas; Bingham Heating & Air, Inc., mechanical; Gould Electric, Inc., electrical; and SC Engineers, commissioning.

The Inland Valley Medical Center is a member of the Southwest Health Care System. The owner is Universal Health Services of Rancho Springs, Inc.
