News from Fallbrook Technologies’ Next Generation NuVinci® Continuously Variable Planetary Transmissions for Bicycles

SAN DIEGO — September 2010 — Fallbrook Technologies Inc. (Fallbrook) announced a partnership with 3point5.com to provide interactive online information and training for independent bicycle dealers (IBDs) for the company’s NuVinci® N360 bicycle drivetrain. The N360 is the next generation of Fallbrook’s award-winning continuously variable planetary (CVP) transmission for bicycles. 3point5.com, which builds and operates online portals for a wide variety of sports-related companies, trains retail staff members using fast-paced, interactive online programs and “Edu-Games” that test product and support knowledge. Employees of NuVinci authorized IBDs as well as staff members of qualified North American IBDs can sign up for the training for free at 3point5.com. The 3point5.com site presents an interactive presentation on NuVinci CVP technology and then tests participants on brand and product knowledge. Upon successful completion of the training, IBD employees qualify for a special Pro Deal discount on NuVinci N360 aftermarket kits, which can be used to retrofit and upgrade existing bicycles. Access and signup information is available at www.3point5.com.

Fallbrook announced that the company’s NuVinci® N360 bicycle drivetrain upgrade kits are now available for North American independent bicycle dealers to order through Quality Bike Products (QBP), Seattle Bike Supply (SBS), Norco Products Ltd. and J&B Importers. The N360 is the next generation of Fallbrook’s award-winning continuously variable planetary (CVP) transmission for bicycles. Complete upgrade boxed kit options are now available for 32 or 36 spoke, silver or black rim, with roller or disc brake configurations with some options for inclusion in a pre-laced wheel. With an infinite number of ratios available within its nominal 360% ratio range, the N360 drivetrain is an attractive replacement for bicycle derailleurs and internally geared hubs as it provides a ride and shifting experience unlike any other. The NuVinci CVP enables Urban and Mountain riders to easily maintain an optimum cadence regardless of terrain and makes shifting as easy as adjusting the volume on a radio.

Fallbrook announced that its NuVinci® N360 bicycle drivetrain will be featured on Ellsworth Handcrafted Bicycles’ new 2011 Enlightenment 26 firmtail crossover bike. The N360 is the next generation of Fallbrook’s award-winning Continuously Variable Planetary (CVP) transmission for bicycles. Crafted from Ellsworth’s Rare Earth Carbon, the Enlightenment’s force directional carbon shapes and lay patterns are topped off with internal cable routing to protect the shifting from the elements. The DMS (Dual Mono Stay) firmtail frame design features an element of absorption, without mechanical articulation, that produces an amazing ride whether it’s a quick daily commute or an off-road trek on a favorite trail. The Enlightenment’s unique dropout design accommodates the NuVinci N360’s drive with a belt or a chain.

Fallbrook’s infinitely variable NuVinci® N360 transmission will be featured on the new Breezer Uptown Infinity, Breezer’s top of the line town bike for 2011. The N360 is the next generation of Fallbrook’s award-winning Continuously Variable Planetary (CVP) transmission for bicycles. The Uptown has been awarded Bicycling Magazine’s “Editor’s Choice” for the best commuter bike for the past three years. With a simple twist of the wrist, Uptown Infinity riders will have an infinite choice of gearing between the highest and lowest — a 360 percent range — with the new NuVinci CVP drivetrain. The N360 transmits mechanical power with spheres instead of gears providing seamless, continuous shifting (even under high pedal torque), without power interruptions, missed gears or dropped chains. The intuitive shifting dial’s feather touch easily increases or decreases pedaling exertion. For better protection, N360’s hub interface is now housed inboard of the frame dropout and is maintenance free and requires no adjustments.

Fallbrook’s infinitely variable NuVinci® N360 transmission will be featured on Organic Bikes new 2011 Edwin Bamboo town bike. The N360 is the next generation of Fallbrook’s award-winning continuously variable planetary (CVP) transmission for bicycles. Organic Bikes takes the eco-friendly aspect of riding a bike a step further — with a sustainable product line featuring Bamboo Bicycles, Biodegradable Water Bottles, Organic Clothing, and Recycled Messenger Bags. Set to be released spring of 2011, the Edwin town bike is a rugged city bike featuring natural laid-up bamboo main tubing, as well as full bamboo fenders and a bamboo rear rack. Outfitted with the NuVinci N360 drive train, Edwin riders will have an infinite choice of gearing between the highest and lowest — a 360 percent range — with a simple twist of the feather light grip shifters. The N360 transmits mechanical power with spheres instead of gears providing seamless, continuous shifting (even under high pedal torque), without power interruptions, missed gears or dropped chains. The intuitive shifting dial’s feather touch easily increases or decreases pedaling exertion even under pedal load. The N360’s hub interface is now housed inboard of the frame dropout and is maintenance free and requires no adjustments.

About Fallbrook Technologies Inc.

Fallbrook Technologies Inc. is a technology and manufacturing company dedicated to improving the performance and flexibility of transmissions for vehicles and equipment. Fallbrook’s NuVinci® continuously variable planetary (CVP) technology is applicable to machines that use a transmission such as bicycles, light electric vehicles, automobiles, agricultural equipment, and wind turbines, among others. The NuVinci CVP uses a set of rotating and tilting balls positioned between the input and output components of a transmission. Tilting the balls changes their contact diameters and varies the speed ratio. The NuVinci platform offers companies the flexibility to design and produce next-generation products that are better tailored to their unique business, market and competitive requirements. Fallbrook has built an extensive portfolio of over 350 patents and patent applications worldwide. For more information, visit www.fallbrooktech.com.
